Anyone who has had young children knows how hard it is to get out of the house.
Between getting them fed and dressed, nappies changed, toileting done, preparing snacks and somehow getting yourself presentable to be out in public, it’s incredible that parents ever leave the house at all.
And sometimes you have to pick your battles.
Two-year-old wants to wear gumboots on a hot summer day? Why not!
Four-year-old wants to wear fleece-lined pants and jumper inside-out so he looks like a “fluffy cat”? By all means!
That’s why it’s easy to understand why Bonnie Engle took her kids out for a walk in her neighbourhood and let her preschooler son wear undies and a t-shirt.
She took a video of herself walking along pushing a pram, a happy little pants-less boy following along beside her. In her hand, she held the pair of pants high like a flag.
“Me showing the whole neighbourhood that I’m not a bad mum… I tried very hard to get him to wear his pants on our walk,” she captioned the hilarious video.
“AT LEAST he’s wearing a shirt, calling it a win,” she continued.

Mum slammed for letting son go out without pants
If you know the internet, perhaps you won’t be surprised to hear that Bonnie was trolled mercilessly, with plenty judging her parenting choices.
“Yeah, then you don’t leave the house until he learns he needs to wear pants in public,” one person wrote. “This is ridiculous.”

“I get the whole pick your battles argument, but as a mum of two-year-old twins, this is ridiculous,” another person agreed. “Simple rules to follow, wearing clothes outside is one of them. Not a battle, because I don’t ask, I tell them no.”
“Why do you allow the child to tell the adult what he will or will not do,” a third person said. “It’s simple. No pants, no walk.”

But not everyone was critical. Many agreed that if they were out getting some sunshine and exercise, it was a win.
“Got his undies on though so y’all good! Keep truckin’ mama!” wrote one person.
“If a pants-less baby isn’t a sign of good motherhood, what is?” another person said, thoroughly enjoying the video.
“At least he’s not fully naked! Good job mum!!” wrote a third person.
