Melbourne boy Curtis Stone is coming home. For a few days, at least.

The LA-based celebrity chef has announced he’ll be back in town for the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival next month.

“Melbourne is my hometown so this particular food festival is a bit sentimental for me. It really does feel a bit like coming home full circle,” he said.

On the Labour Day public holiday Stone will cook the ultimate Aussie barbecue and host a super masterclass at the festival’s House of Food and Wine.

The chef-owner of the acclaimed Maude and Gwen restaurants in Beverly Hills said he was proud to be an ambassador for Australian cooking overseas as Melbourne was one of the world’s great food hubs.

“I think it’s important to shout about Melbourne being a food town, on par with the best food destinations globally. We have such a diverse community here and an influx of flavours and cuisines coming into the country to give chefs inspiration.”

Recognisable as the face of Coles supermarkets, Stone said he was looking forward to hitting the barbecue during the festival.

“I’m actually getting my hands on some ingredients to get inspired. Aussie meat is just delicious and I’m looking forward to cooking up a storm next month.”

The House of Food and Wine will transform Southbank’s Malthouse Theatre into a gastronomic hub for a full three-day program of masterclasses and talks from international stars and local talent, as well as top-notch drinking and dining.
