A RENEWED regional focus will underpin a longer Melbourne Food and Wine Festival next year.

In its 27th year the event will run from March 8-24, longer than in recent years, to accommodate a Regional Weekend dedicated to food and wine experiences across the state. The Regional World’s Longest Lunches will also take place as part of this new event from March 15-17.

MFWF will open as usual with the popular World’s Longest Lunch, however, River Graze along the Yarra in Southbank, usually held on the opening weekend, will move to the closing weekend.

It’s the first festival with former magazine editor Anthea Loucas Bosha as CEO of Food and Wine Victoria, the umbrella organisation behind MFWF.

“We’re pulling together a calendar of events which will underscore why Melbourne and regional Victoria are the standard-bearers for not only excellence but also fun in food and wine in this country,” she said.

The Victorian Government and Bank of Melbourne have renewed their investment in the 2019 event, which will attract more than 250,000 visitors and showcase Victoria’s food and wine industry which employs 210,000 Victorians and brings $23 billion to the economy.
