Woolworths shoppers caught flouting toilet paper four-packet policy

A cap on bog rolls at Woolworths hasn’t stopped customers from buying up big, infuriating some shoppers as people capitalise on the shortage by selling dunny paper online at hugely inflated prices.

A Woolworths shopper has been caught red-handed flouting the four-packet-per-customer toilet paper policy.

A photo posted on Reddit reportedly shows a Woolies customer with an overflowing trolley of 10-roll packs on Wednesday.

The user juvey88, who posted the photo which has attracted hundreds of comments, wrote “this is getting ridiculous”.

While it’s unclear which store the photo was snapped at, several shoppers have expressed outrage at the loo roll shortage.

Carmel wrote on the Woolworths Facebook page: “Four packets of toilet paper per transaction is too much.

“Woolies Moorabbin has no toilet paper, paper towel, tissues and pasta, rice, UHT Milks are nearly all gone. All the pensioners who do their shopping on a Thursday or people who only shop once a week were left scratching their heads”.

Another shopper, Sue, said: No toilet paper left at all in my local store today. Getting a bit ridiculous really as we are running out of it and only have a few left to use for two”.

The Leader has also found dozens of ads from people capitalising on the shortage by selling toilet roll on eBay and classifieds including Gumtree and eBay.

And a few jokers have been having fun offering packs for $10,000.

Retail expert Dr Gary Mortimer said popular shopping and classifieds websites were full of opportunistic behaviour.

“It’s not uncommon for people to be opportunistic and sell in-demand products including toilet paper, hand sanitiser, Glen 20 and face masks at inflated prices,” Dr Mortimer said.

“Woolworths, Aldi and Coles have big distribution centres full of inventory to stores … people need to calm their farm.”
A Woolworths spokeswoman said the supermarket giant had applied a quantity limit on toilet paper packs to ensure more customers had access to the products.

“The purchase limit of four packs per transaction applies in-store and online, and will help shore up stock as suppliers ramp up local production in response to higher than usual demand,” the spokeswoman said.

“Our teams are continuing to work hard on restocking stores with extra deliveries of long-life food and household staples from our distribution centres.

She said the vast majority Woolworths products remained available as normal.

The spokeswoman said Woolworths apologised for the inconvenience caused by temporary stock shortages and thanked shoppers for their patience.
