Police are appealing for witnesses after a toddler drowned in a pond near a playground in Melbourne’s west.
The three-year-old girl was found unresponsive after wandering from an adventure playground at Footscray Park on June 30, where she had been playing.
She was found in the water shortly before 3pm and rushed to hospital but sadly died five days later.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the girl’s death was not being treated as suspicious, but investigators want to speak to a woman who may have seen the child leaving the playground between 2.30pm and 2.45pm.
“The child was Middle Eastern in appearance, with dark hair accent and was wearing a khaki-coloured jacket,” she said.
The spokeswoman said detectives are preparing a report into the drowning for the coroner.
The appeal for witnesses comes just days after a two-year-old boy was found unresponsive in a Crown Melbourne hotel pool late on Friday night.
Emergency services were rushed to Whiteman St in Southbank about 10pm, rushing the toddler to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a critical condition where he is fighting for his life.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the near-drowning.
