Melbourne’s stage 4 lockdown was extended for another two weeks on Sunday to September 28, with some retail and dine-in hospitality services expected to open on October 26 but most of Melbourne still in lockdown until at least November 23.

The rules make Melbourne’s lockdown the longest of any city in the world.

Police issued 177 fines in the past 24 hours to people disobeying the chief health officer’s directives, including 11 to people who weren’t wearing masks, 68 for curfew breaches and 28 to people travelling beyond their 5km radius.

Wyndham has 204 active virus cases as of Monday and 2155 have been recorded across the municipality since the pandemic began.

Aside from the man picking up his mate in Little River, police also fined two men and one woman since yesterday for knocking back alcoholic beverages and listening to music while floating in a rubber boat in the Caroline Springs Lake.

A man in Lilydale was fined after cops discovered he was more than 40km from home.

His excuse, he told police, was that he thought restrictions had ended and had gone out for a day trip.

Victoria recorded 41 new virus cases since yesterday and nine deaths.

To date 675 people have died from coronavirus across the state.
