A childcare centre in Melbourne’s west has been evacuated after a dozen children suffered an allergic reaction when lunch was served.
Children and staff from the Creative Gardens Early Learning centre in Point Cook were assessed by paramedics on Tuesday after a large cohort suffered from an allergic reaction about noon.
Twelve children and a staff member were treated at the Brookdale Rd centre but no one required hospital transport.
Fire Rescue Victoria crews also attended the scene to test air quality but no concerns were identified.
A spokeswoman for the centre’s parent company, G8 Education said the kitchen will be closed until an internal investigation is complete.
“The local public health unit has been contacted and they have advised that it is highly unlikely that the reactions are due to an infectious or communicable
disease,” the spokeswoman said.
The care, safety and wellbeing of our children, families and teams is our highest priority.
“We are working closely with the department of health as we progress our inquiries.”
The centre was still working to determine the exact cause of the reaction as of 3pm Tuesday.
