CCTV has captured the horrifying screams of a Werribee household as they answered a knock on their front door to a terrifying home invasion.
Wyndham detectives are investigating an aggravated home invasion and car fire in Werribee late Sunday night.
Police say six males forced entry into a Powlett St residence about 11.50pm where three people were home.
A neighbour’s CCTV revealed loud bangs before the door was opened and the yelling began.
A few seconds later, there was another crash before a car alarm was set off.
The residents were threatened with weapons and one man sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the assault.
He did not require hospital treatment.
Police were told the invaders left the property, then set fire to a car parked outside.
They then fled the scene in another vehicle.
Neighbours told the Herald Sun they heard alarms followed by screaming before they raced to help put out the blaze.
Daniel Dinesh rushed out with a hose after he saw the bright light from the fire glow through his front window.
The Werribee father said his family was terrified and his two girls, both under 12, were still shaken by the screams and fire.
“I’m not sure exactly what happened but when I checked the (CCTV) video I could hear someone knocked them and someone was badly hurt,” Mr Dinesh said.
“Suddenly I saw it was on fire so I rushed to make sure it did not spread and in the meantime the occupants and other neighbours came out trying to put out the fire.
“I was very scared and the family got scared last night, everyone was panicked. I don’t know exactly what happened.”
He said his neighbours had “casually” opened their door to knocking.
“Maybe it was their friends … then they were in panic mode,” he said.
Another neighbour said he recognised a silver/grey car seen driving down the street shortly after the attack as it looked very similar to a car that had been in the area the previous night.
The car was described as a small SUV, similar to a Subaru Forrester.
A police spokeswoman said the investigation was ongoing.
“CI will be looking at multiple avenues of enquiry in regards to cars in the area,” she said.
Detectives arrived at the address about 9.30am Monday morning and knocked at the door but no one answered.
Police are working to establish the exact circumstances of the incident and investigations are ongoing.
