A Coles supermarket employee at the fresh food giant’s Tarneit store has tested positive for coronavirus.
The employee worked at the retailer’s Davis Rd outlet and is now self-isolating, according to a statement released by Coles on Thursday.
The positive case comes almost a week to the day after Woolworths announced last Friday that a team member at their Werribee store tested positive.
Wyndham still has the highest number of active virus infections in the state, with 319 cases detected as of yesterday and 2018 recorded across the municipality since the pandemic began.
Coles said in its statement that contact tracing had not identified any other team member who had been in close contact with their infected staff member.
The employee last worked at the store on August 6.
“Coles’ standard cleaning procedures comply with the Federal Government’s COVID-19 hygiene practices for supermarkets and frequent sanitisation has occurred in the time since the team member was last on site,” the statement read.
“Consistent with prior practice developed with the Victorian Department of Health, the store can continue to trade and the risk of transmission for customers and team members is very low.”
