Police are investigating after a man allegedly made explicit inappropriate comments and sexually touched himself in front of a woman and her two young children in broad daylight at Portland.

The young family had been shopping at a Portland supermarket and were in their car on January 13 about 1.10pm when the incident happened.

Police said the man had knocked on the car door, opened it and started touching himself.

The woman quickly closed the door and told the man to go away, and he fled the scene.

The man is believed to be of Caucasian appearance, a thin build with brown hair tied back in a ponytail.

The man was wearing a blue sweatshirt, blue denim jeans, a tan coloured cap and a black face mask.

Police have released images of a man they believe may be able to assist with enquiries.

Police have urged the public to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 if they recognise the man in the images or have information.

According to Criminal Statistics Agency (CSA), there were 143 sex offences recorded in the Glenelg Shire, which includes Portland, in 2021.
