A woman has died in hospital days after her home in Melbourne’s west was set on fire. Her husband remains under police guard in hospital.

A mother of six has died in hospital days after her husband allegedly set their home in Melbourne’s west alight.

Kylie Griffiths, 36, died at The Alfred Hospital on Friday morning after she was critically injured in the blaze at Sutherland St in Albanvale on Monday afternoon.

Six children were also home at the time of the fire, including a nine-month-old baby.

Most managed to escape unharmed, but a 17-year-old girl was seriously injured and is being treated at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Witnesses described Ms Griffiths emerging badly burned after her husband, Roland Griffiths, 38, allegedly ignited a flammable liquid at their home.

He remains under police guard in hospital.

Police had regularly attended the address since the couple married two years ago, neighbours told Nine News. They alleged that just last week Mr Griffiths stood in the front yard and threatened to blow up the house.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the incident (are) being investigated by the arson and explosives squad,” a Victoria Police spokesman said.

It took 26 firefighters more than 30 minutes to control the flames, according to Fire Rescue Victoria.
