1. LADY AND THE HAIR, MELTON
22 Bakery Square
The votes are in — and Prue Tonkinson and her popular Melton salon, Lady and the Hair, are top dog in Melbourne’s west.
Tonkinson only opened the shop two years ago after working from home for seven years, and already has 13 staff and a huge clientele.
Not only that, she’s also just opened the Boston Barber Co, eight doors down.
“I love it, I feel super excited about it,” she says of her nomination.
Tonkinson’s business, which specialises in blondes, balayage and extensions, has also earned the title of one of Melbourne’s top 10 hairdressers, and is no ordinary salon.
“We’re not like a normal salon, we’re super down to earth,” she says.
“We just want to make people laugh, we’re always dancing and carrying on, so it makes people feel more comfortable. I’ve just found over the years it makes people feel like it’s their home away from home.”
