1. CURIOUS BLONDE HAIR STUDIO, BAYSWATER
14 Station St
Sarah Coburn’s business is called Curious Blonde for a very good reason — her clients adore her precision and ability to achieve the perfect hue.
The best salon in Melbourne’s east, which has also made the list of Melbourne’s top 10 hairdressers, specialises in blondes, and 90 per cent of Coburn’s clients have blonde foils or balayage.
She says customers are attracted to her ability to place foils close to the scalp and around the hairline.
“I think that makes people happy because it means they can get an extra week or two out of their blonde. And also doing a really good toner, because it’s something that people really care about, how long their blonde is going to last and not go golden.”
Coburn, who has a three-year-old daughter, Isla, is so dedicated to her craft, she started working from home when the baby was seven months old.
She says her work is “never about me”, and is honoured by her nomination.
“It shows that my hard work has paid off and I have clients who want to recommend me and brag about me,”she says.
“To me that feels like they know that I care about them so they’re returning the favour. It makes you keep on going, and know that it’s all worthwhile, even though you don’t get much time with your family.
“It means you’re successful if you’ve got lots of people saying nice things about you — to me that’s success in itself.”
