AGSV cricket 2023: Will Stamper, Thomas Kenny among the best performers this season

It has been another enthralling season of AGSV cricket with finals now just days away. See which players performed the best in the home-and-away campaign.

Pure chaos as historic Kiwis stun Poms

The AGSV cricket home-and-away season was filled with special moments.

Mentone Grammar took out the minor premiership, bouncing back from its seventh place finish last season.

Marcellin also returned to finals this season after finishing in sixth place last year, taking third spot.

Continuing their streak of making the top four finals was Assumption who finished in second and Camberwell who took out fourth spot.

Following the completion of the home-and-away season, the top performers this AGSV cricket campaign have been identified.

Here’s a look at the best performers of the season prior to the beginning of the finals campaign which starts this weekend with Mentone taking on Camberwell and Assumption playing Marcellin.

Will Stamper (Camberwell)

It has been a brilliant season for Will Stamper who has notched two centuries and three fifties for the campaign. The top order bat has a top score of 108 not out which came in the final round against Peninsula. It was also a week after he hit an unbeaten century of 101 against PEGS. His season tally of 494 runs is the most in the competition at the end of the home-and-away season.

Runs: 494 at 123.5. Catches: 7.

Fayzan Abdul Sathaar (PEGS)

The 2023 AGSV cricket campaign had no better all-rounder than Fayzan Abdul Sathaar. The PEGS number three and bowler finished with the second most wickets in the competition and seventh most runs. Abdul Sathaar scored a century of 106 against Camberwell in Round 8 for his highest score of the season. He took 4-65 against Ivanhoe in Round 4 for his best bowling performance.

Wickets: 14 at 25.71. Runs: 243 at 34.71.

Lucas Cavigan (Assumption)

An outstanding knock of 153 against reigning premiers Trinity in Round 8 was the highest individual score of a batter this AGSV season. Lucas Cavigan also notched 131 against Ivanhoe in Round 3. He also scored two half-centuries and finished second in the competition’s aggregate runs.

Runs: 487 at 97.4. Catches: 6.

Thomas Kenny (Marcellin)

In every game, Thomas Kenny took a wicket this season including three occasions where he snared four wickets. Kenny took the most wickets in the competition with 18 and had best figures of 4-13 off 10 overs against Peninsula in Round 7.

Wickets: 18 at 11.78. Runs: 90 at 30.

Lachlan McNamara (Mentone)

A five-wicket haul against PEGS in Round 5 was a highlight of Lachlan McNamara’s season. He finished the campaign with 12 wickets, the equal-third most in the competition.

Wickets: 12 at 27.

Jesse Van Rooyen (Mentone)

An unbeaten 147 against Assumption in Round 9 was the highlight of Jesse Van Rooyen’s season. His knock was the second highest score in the competition this season. Van Rooyen finished third in the competition’s aggregate runs after his five innings.

Runs: 348 at 174. Wickets: 2 at 24. Catches: 3.

Adam Li (Camberwell)

It was a brilliant season for Adam Li who proved to be one of the competition’s leading all-rounders. The middle-order bat and bowler exceeded 20 runs in all seven of his innings except for one. He also finished with the sixth most runs in the competition. With the ball, the U16 took seven wickets with best figures of 3-33 off 9.1 overs against Trinity in Round 4.

Runs: 250 at 83.33. Wickets: 7 at 20.

Thomas Legudi (PEGS)

With both bat and ball, Thomas Legudi was handy this season for PEGS. He finished with the ninth most runs in the competition with a top score of 68 against Marcellin in Round 6. He took three wickets twice with the feats coming against Peninsula and Yarra Valley.

Runs: 214 at 30.57. Wickets: 7 at 25.86. Catches: 3.

Lachlan Shinn-Mahony (Assumption)

A century of 120 against reigning premiers Trinity was Lachlan Shinn-Mahony’s highest score of the campaign. The number three bat had the third most runs this season with 294.

Runs: 294 at 49. Wickets: 4 at 42.5. Catches: 3.

Harry Wallace (Peninsula)

It was a successful season for Harry Wallace who established himself as a leading all-rounder in the competition. He picked up the 10th most wickets and scored the 24th most runs in the campaign. He had best figures of 3-36 off 14 overs and a top score of 64, both occurring in the same game in Round 8 against Yarra Valley.

Wickets: 10 at 21.50. Runs: 127 at 31.75.

William Waters (Marcellin)

A four-fa against Peninsula in Round 7 was the best performance of the home-and-away season for William Waters. He finished the campaign with the equal-third most wickets in the competition.

Wickets: 12 at 22.08.

Xavier Stute (Assumption)

A five-wicket haul of 6-33 off 6.2 overs against Camberwell was the most wickets picked up by an individual in a game this AGSV home-and-away season. Xavier Stute finished the campaign with the equal-fourth most wickets in the competition.

Wickets: 11 at 12.45.
