Woman jailed for the fourth time for a ice-addled driving and trafficking spree

A one-woman drug driving and ice-dealing crime wave has been jailed again.

An ice-addled woman who has already served three stints behind bars for trafficking and drug-driving has been jailed again.

Emily Higginbottom pleaded guilty to more than a dozen ice-related charges at Frankston Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

WANTED ICE ADDICT FOUND HIDING UNDER CAR

Magistrate Leonard Brear said he was shocked at the Frankston 23-year-old’s “incredible” criminal and traffic history, which included thefts, multiple drug trafficking priors and a long litany of driving while disqualified while high on drugs or alcohol.

The court heard Higginbottom had only been out of jail for a few months when she again embarked upon another ice-fuelled crime spree across Frankston, Seaford and Dandenong.

Between April 22 and July 31 last year she was involved in two collisions, one of which she fled from, failed or refused four drug tests and was found with scores of ice in Ziploc bags.

Police also found a stolen car in her driveway, money they believed to be from ice sales and a “tick list” of drug purchases.

All up officers found more than 80g of ice either hidden in her pockets, bra and underwear and inside boots on the porch of her property.

The court heard she had served multiple jail sentences — all for theft, drug and traffic offending — and she had never held a full driving licence.

Her defence lawyer said she had had mental health issues since she was 12 and had ice addiction problems dating back to when she was 14.

Magistrate Brear said he would not consider a corrections order because she had “given a one-finger salute to them in the past”.

“This is the most shocking record for such a young person,” he said.

“You have had periods of imprisonment and it has not made one iota of difference.

“You’ve also had judicial monitoring; that obviously has had no effect.”

He said ice was “the most terrible drug the courts have seen, ever”.

Higginbottom was sentenced to two years and five months in jail, with a non-parole period of 15 months, minus 162 days already spent in custody.
