Emergency crews have fixed a ruptured gas main that caused Wilandra Rise Primary School to be locked down, with students now told they can go outside.

Students at the Clyde North school were kept indoors this morning following a gas leak near the campus.

A message was sent to parents alerting them of a low pressure gas leak on the other side of the school’s fence.

The message assured parents “because of the direction of the wind” the gas wasn’t going not the school.

CFA crews from Cranbourne and Narre Warren were called to the school at 9.02am.

Emergency services and a gas plumber worked to fix the problem, with an Education Department spokesperson this afternoon saying the leak had been fixed.

Police said they were called to the scene to manage traffic this morning.

No precautionary ambulances were needed and it is understood no-one was affected by the gas leak.
