A rampant tyre slasher is leaving victims deflated and thousands of dollars out of pocket in a bizarre destruction spree.

Since early October a man has been stalking eight streets in Mt Martha slashing tyres on cars parked on the road.

Some victims are being hit multiple times, with one who was targeted three times installing CCTV in a bid to catch the culprit.

Footage shows the “slasher” walking down the street in what appears to be a hood or beanie.

The man slashes more than one tyre of victim’s cars, costing them thousands of dollars in some cases.

Detective Alex Montgomery said 23 people had been affected since the start of October, with three incidents occurring early yesterday morning.

“He is committing the acts about midnight … between 12am and 1am,” he said.

“He is hitting a concentrated area in Mount Martha and slashing multiple tyres, which is very inconvenient for the victims.”

Det Montgomery said the streets where cars’ tyres were been slashed were Glenisla Drive, Ramsay Court, Normanby Terrace, Buxton Court, Walara Drive, Dickinson Grove, Ferne Place and Marguerita Ave.

He urged people in those streets, and the streets surrounding them, to be vigilant in parking their cars behind gates if they could.

Det Montgomery said if anyone has any information or if residents see any male wandering by themself after midnight to call police.
