A devoted husband and father who was crushed to death at a Dandenong South business has been remembered by his heartbroken wife.

Darren Lamb, 44, was tragically killed when a shipping container fell on him while he was driving a forklift at Conroy Removals on Monday.

It’s understood a component of the forklift failed as the shipping container was being lifted about 6.07am, causing the container to fall back onto the driver’s cabin.

Charlene Lamb told Leader her husband was an amazing father to their seven children, four under the age of eight.

He leaves behind Jake, 20, Jayde, 16, Leyon, 14, Nevada, 7, Willow, 5, Aspen, 3 and Billie, 1.

“What Daz enjoyed most about life were his kids,” she said.

“Every spare moment away from work he spent with them.”

Charlene said her daughters loved spending time with their dad, styling his hair and painting his nails.

“He was known to always have painted nails at work,” she said.

“He loved taking the girls on their nightly bike rides and read them a bedtime story almost every night.”

Charlene said Darren, who worked at the company for several years, was full of love and affection.

“He would give me a kiss before he had a shower every single night,” she said.

“He would always joke and say you never know what might happen while I’m in there.”

The Koo Wee Rup couple married in Las Vegas, 22 years ago.

“I’ll never forget the look on his face when I walked down the aisle towards him,” she said.

“He was crying and it was the first time I had seen him cry.”

Charlene said her world was shattered by the tragedy.

“I just don’t understand how he can get up and go to work and never come home due to work safety,” she said.

“[Our kids] are wondering where their daddy is and when he will be back.

“We are just so lost.”

Tributes have flown on social media with friends remembering Darren as a beautiful and down-to-earth father.

“He was and forever will be a great man,” Trevor Dye said.

“Most genuine person I have ever know,” Fiona Redford wrote on Facebook.

Conroy Removals director Philip Gordon said the man was a valued employee.

“As we are a family company that has a close-knit team this has had a devastating impact on all our people,” he said.

“Our priority at this time is to provide support to the family of our lost team member and all our Melbourne team.”

Mr Gordon said the company is co-operating with WorkSafe and the police in their investigations.

A GoFundMe page that was created by a friend on Tuesday has already raised more than $5000 for the family.
