Another targeted shooting, a hoon who asked for his mum, a speeding driver who needed to find a toilet, more credit card theft and a poor cow who got stuck in a dam just means it’s another week of crime in the southeast and peninsula.

CASEY

HAMPTON PARK

Armed Squad detectives said a man who was shot in Hampton Park about 9.30am on Tuesday, April 30 was a victim of a targeted shooting. Police and Emergency services called to the Fulham Close home found a 30-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his lower body. He was taken to hospital in a stable condition. The incident is still under investigation.

CRANBOURNE WEST

A disqualified Cranbourne learner driver who did a runner on police after she was caught speeding in an unregistered Holden Commodore station wagon with false plates has been arrested. The 26-year-old woman was spotted doing 100km/h in an 80km/h zone on Hall Rd in Cranbourne West about 2.45am on April 26. Police tried to intercept her but she failed to stop. She was eventually stopped on Scarborough Drive. Her vehicle was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1042.40. She is expected to be charged on summons with traffic related offences.

NARRE WARREN SOUTH

A gang of thug teenagers who assaulted two men near Flinders Street station about 11.35pm on April 24 have been arrested. The victims were walking near the station subway when they were approached by the rogue teens. The young crooks made demands for the victims to hand over their wallets during an alleged scuffle. An 18-year-old man and a 21-year-old man sustained minor injuries. The four teens from Narre Warren South, Lyndhurst and Berwick fled on foot but were arrested a short time later near Clarendon Street.

PAKENHAM

The cause of a fire which started in a resident’s room at a Pakenham aged care facility was not suspicious. CFA crews arrived at the Princes Hwy facility just before 11pm on April 22. Dozens of residents had to be evacuated to safety. Several were assessed by paramedics at the scene and one resident was taken to hospital with minor burns to their hands. The fire was extinguished quickly and contained to one room.

GREATER DANDENONG

DANDENONG

A speeding driver who needed to go to the toilet had to hold on a little longer after he was nabbed doing 164km/h on the Dandenong Bypass. Police arrested the man just after midnight on April 25. The driver was “given the chance to evacuate his bladder” at the police station before being charged with numerous offences. His car was impounded for 30 days.

DANDENONG

A man who hit a pedestrian after driving away from a Dandenong medical clinic on March 13 is wanted by police. Police allege the man hit the pedestrian who was crossing near Stud Rd. The driver stopped for a while as others helped the pedestrian get to his feet but then drove away.

SPRINGVALE

A thief with a moustache who used a stolen credit card at a “well-known fast food restaurant” in Springvale on April 4 is on the run. It’s alleged the man used the stolen card to make several other purchases in Springvale.

NOBLE PARK

A man spotted driving a dodgy looking car in Noble Park about 9.30am on April 20 has been arrested for serious theft offences. Highway Patrol officers noticed a vehicle that looked “a little bit worse for wear” which they thought may be unsafe. The driver was pulled over but detectives rushed to the scene after finding out the suspect’s name. The 33-year-old Springvale man was wanted for a series of serious theft offences in Greater Dandenong. The vehicle was given a defect notice as well.

KEYSBOROUGH

A collision at a Keysborough intersection last month has sparked an urgent warning by Victoria Police Highway Patrol officers. A car was smashed up after the driver sped up to beat the yellow light. Police are reminding drivers that speeding up or going through a yellow is an offence which costs $403 and three demerit points. “We sometimes see vehicles accelerating to make it through while lights are yellow which is potentially dangerous to other road users,” a police spokesman said.

KINGSTON AND BAYSIDE

CHELTENHAM

A trio of burglars who knocked over stores at a Cheltenham shopping centre on April 20 are on the run from police. Kingston detectives believe the three suspects forced open the doors to a clothing shop in the centre about 6.15pm. The burglars stole several jackets and attempted to force open the doors of other shops in the centre. One suspect was wearing a black Adidas T-shirt, black Adidas shorts and a black cap. The second suspect was wearing a red T-shirt with a camouflage emblem, blue jeans, a black puffer jacket and a black FILA bag. The third suspect was wearing a red, white and blue FILA top, black shorts and black cap. All three are perceived to be caucasian in appearance and aged in their mid to late teens.

CLAYTON SOUTH

A suspected crook who stole several items including a credit card from an unlocked car parked in Clayton South on April 16 is wanted by police. Detectives believe the unknown male offender got into the car sometime between 4am and 8.30am. He then used the credit card at several service stations and supermarkets in Clayton, Clayton South, Clarinda and Huntingdale.

SOUTHERN METRO REGION

More police and protective services officers will be on the street from this month. The statewide deployment will occur over the next 12 months. The allocation is the second deployment of 2,729 new officers set to join Victoria Police by 2022 as part of a four-year rollout. “We need to be visible in the community, with police out in vehicles and on foot providing a mobile and agile response to incidents that occur,” Deputy Commissioner Rick Nugent said.

ASPENDALE GARDENS

CFA firefighters have been called to save an animal in distress and it was not a cat stuck up a tree. A cow got itself stuck in mud in an Aspendale Gardens dam and it took members from Edithvale and Macclesfield crews to get the animal out.

The rescue teams arrived at the property just after 2.30pm on April 20 to find the young cow firmly stuck in the mud around the edge of the dam. CFA members used muscle power to help pull the cow free from the dam after waiting for the vet to arrive. Fortunately the cow was able to get up and walk away and was soon back to eating grass in its paddock just over two hours later.

FRANKSTON

FRANKSTON

A drunk and speeding driver had his license suspended after he was nabbed in Frankston. Somerville Highway Patrol officers spotted the driver of the grey Toyota SUV on Skye Road just after midnight on Friday, April 26. The 41-year-old Frankston man was allegedly detected doing 75km/h in a 60 zone. He also blew .107. His vehicle was impounded at a cost of $1280.00. His license was immediately suspended and he is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving and exceed speed.

SEAFORD

A 42-year-old Seaford man has been arrested following an alleged spate of thefts from motor vehicles at Seaford Railway Station on April 24. It is alleged the man did over several vehicles parked near the Railway Parade station and stole various items. Police were called after a passer-by reported a man allegedly behaving suspiciously. The suspect was arrested at the scene. He was charged with seven counts of theft from motor vehicle, four counts of attempted theft from motor vehicle and one count of commit indictable offence while on bail.

SEAFORD

A man who sexually assaulted a woman at Seaford Beach just after 5pm on April 21 is on the loose. Frankston Sexual Offence and Child abuse Investigation Team Detectives have been told a 24-year-old woman was approached and inappropriately kissed and touched by the man. She pushed her attacker off before running away. The alleged offender is described as Indian subcontinental, around 28, 170cm tall, unshaven with a slim build, short dark-brown hair and large round eyes. He was last seen walking along Seaford beach towards the Frankston Foreshore wearing blue jeans, a brown shirt with a fluorescent orange logo and no shoes.

FRANKSTON

Frankston Sexual Offence and Child Abuse Investigation Team detectives have charged a man following an investigation into alleged historical sex offences. An investigation centred on alleged sexual offending which occurred in multiple locations across Frankston, Mornington and Mount Eliza between 1984 and 1987. A 72-year-old Edithvale man was charged with multiple counts of gross indecency in presence of a person under 16 years while under care, supervision and authority, multiple counts of indecent assault and multiple counts of sexual penetration of a child under 16.

MORNINGTON PENINSULA

MORNINGTON

A P-plater has done his license after he was caught drink-driving in Mornington. An “eagle eyed” sergeant spotted the 20-year-old Sandhurst man driving his Ford from the car park of a Main St pub just after 2am on Monday, April 29. The driver was intercepted in nearby Murray St where he told police he was parking his car in the dark dead end street “so it would be safe”. He allegedly blew .111. The man’s license immediately suspended and he is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving. His vehicle was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1010.00

SAFETY BEACH

Police are hoping to return a surf kite found in Safety Beach about 1.30am on April 26 to its rightful owner. It’s believed the kite was left at the boat ramp. Anyone who may know about the surf kite is urged to contact Rosebud Police Station on 5986 4900.

SOMERVILLE/HASTINGS

A P-plater who rolled his ute while doing donuts at Somerville Secondary College asked police to call his mum before being arrested. The hoon driver from Skye rolled his car about 11pm on April 13. He admitted to doing donuts and skids before losing control of his vehicle. Two friends were inside the car when it rolled. The driver said his friends were “egging him on” to drive harder. Another P-plater hoon, this time from Bittern, rolled his Nissan Patrol after doing burnouts in the Hastings Marina car park about 11pm on April 26. He lost control at high speed which caused the 4WD to roll onto its roof. He had one friend in the vehicle at the time. “I normally do burnouts, but this time I lost it,” the driver told police. Both men will front Magistrates Court for various driving offences. Police also thanked the Hastings and Somerville communities for their help catching the hoons.
