A REPEAT drink-driver caught again three times over the limit has told a court he “hasn’t touched a drop of alcohol” since.

Earlier this year the builder’s labourer blew .169, to add to his terrible traffic history, having been nabbed at .2 in 1988 and again at .14 in 1994.

Scott Beattie pleaded guilty to drink-driving at Frankston Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard Beattie was seen by police in Hartnett Drive, Seaford at around 3.30am on May 19 this year.

They smelt alcohol on his breath, and when tested, he registered .169.

The Seaford man told officers he had been drinking at home and then at a hotel, and was “only 10 minutes from home” so thought he was OK to drive.

In court his defence lawyer said Beattie had not had a drink at all since the May incident, totally abstaining from alcohol after he made that “irrational decision” to drive.

Magistrate Dominic Lennon said that night Beattie posed a real risk to the community.

He said Beattie was “blind drunk, more than three times over the limit” and it was “inexplicable” he was driving a vehicle in that state.

“It is a miracle you didn’t kill someone,” he said.

“You have a number of serious drink-driving convictions; your readings are very high.

“If you reoffend, you’ll go to jail.”

Beattie was convicted, placed on a 12-month community corrections order and must do 100 hours of unpaid work.

His licence was also disqualified for 16 months, backdated to May.
