A plumbing apprentice has had his driving licence flushed down the S-bend for two months after he was nicked driving while disqualified.
P-plater Mitchell Nicholas Cox had previously lost his licence for drink-driving, and shouldn’t have been behind the wheel when he was caught again by police last year.
The 21-year-old told cops he had to get home from football, and there was no-one else to drive him so he drove himself.
P-PLATE DRUNK CRASHER RETURNED TO PARTY
Cox faced Frankston Magistrates’ Court yesterday, pleading guilty to driving while disqualified.
The court heard Cox’s ute was pulled over in a routine stop on Cranbourne-Frankston Rd, Langwarrin at around 9pm on July 24 last year.
He tested negative for both drink and drugs, but couldn’t produce his P-plate licence.
That was because he had been disqualified from May 14 for three months for a low level drink-driving offence, where he registered between zero and .049.
He represented himself in court, saying he knew he was disqualified but had no other option than to drive.
He admitted he had done the wrong thing and had now “changed his ways”.

Magistrate Julian Ayres said driving while disqualified for a drink-drive matter was an aggravating factor.
He said he had to take Cox’s licence away for a period of time because he had ignored a direct order not to get behind the wheel.
“You were not driving badly, you were just not allowed to drive,” Mr Ayres said.
Cox’s licence was suspended for two months and he was fined $350. No conviction was recorded.
