A drug addict living in a car bashed an innocent woman because she thought she had dobbed her in to police for leaving dirty syringes and defecating in her front yard.

The addict was incensed and attacked the victim, punching her in the face, pulling her hair and twisting her wrist as she tried to reverse her car out of her own driveway.

Kelly Lightbody pleaded guilty to assault, bail breaches and giving false detail charges at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The court heard in November 2017 the 25-year-old had been living with her boyfriend in a car they parked outside a Noble Park house.

They constantly dumped syringes and other drug paraphernalia around the streets and used the front yard of a nearby house as a toilet.

Police were called and they warned the pair to move on.

But the pair returned, and as the woman tried to reverse her car from her driveway she was attacked by Lightbody, who punched her in the face twice.

She also pulled her hair and wrenched her arm, yelling “you bitch, you called the cops”.

The victim went to hospital suffering bruising to her face and wrist, and was left in fear by the attack.

Lightbody went missing for a while before she was arrested on a warrant in Abbotsford on January 27 this year and remanded in custody.

In court her defence lawyer said she had mental health and drug issues and was seeing doctors in prison every day.

Magistrate Tara Hartnett said the violent assault was “nasty”.

But she said Lightbody’s significant health and drug concerns were factors, and she had already spent a period of time — about 17 days — in custody.

Ms Hartnett said she would release her from jail once she had been assessed for a community corrections order.
