A TANKED-UP thug who armed himself with a knife and meat cleaver before slashing a boarder’s face and neck has been jailed for four years.

Troy Agustsson had knocked back a gutful of goon before repeatedly stabbing his innocent Hampton Park victim in the vicious, unprovoked assault.

A second man suffered serious hand injuries from the meat cleaver as he valiantly defended the other man from further knife wounds.

Agustsson was sentenced to a minimum of three years behind bars on two reckless injury charges at the County Court on July 6.

The stabbing happened four years ago but Agustsson failed to attended court, a warrant was issued and he was finally arrested in February this year.

The court heard he was living in a boarding house with several other men and a woman on the afternoon of June 17, 2014.

After drinking two litres of wine he began ranting and raving, saying he was going to “start stabbing” people, and punching the walls.

At around 5pm he let out a “battle cry” before coming out of his room and stabbing the victim repeatedly in the face and neck.

At one point the blade of the knife went through the victim’s cheek and hit his tooth.

A neighbour tried to intervene, stopping Agustsson from attempting to strike the defenceless man with the cleaver.

He sustained a deep cut to his hand before other residents of the boarding house managed to subdue Agustsson.

Agustsson told police his “brain just fried, it just melted down”, his mind went blank and he wanted to die as he had had enough of life.

The court heard the man who was stabbed will never regain feelings on the right side of his face, needs to have speech lessons and has to take pain medication for the rest of his life.

Judge Mark Gamble said the victim, who must have believed he was going to be killed, was subjected to a “terrifying and vicious” attack and would bear the psychical as well as emotional scars for the rest of his life.

Agustsson was jailed for four years, with a non-parole of three years. He has already served 260 days in custody.
