What happens in a criminal trial?

A FUMING female went on a month-long spiteful social media spree, repeatedly threatening to kill former partners on Facebook, a court has heard.

The Rosebud 43-year-old had already spent almost two months in custody before pleading guilty at Frankston Magistrates’ Court yesterday to more than a dozen threats, resisting arrest and breach charges.

The court heard there were, and still are, a swag of court orders involving two of her former boyfriends in place, forbidding contact and publication of posts about them on social media pages such as Facebook.

But despite this during April and May this year she called, texted and wrote online an array of violent and vile messages about them, saying they were going to be shot.

She was upset over a custody concern with the father of two of her children, and also in dispute with a different ex-boyfriend over ownership of a dog.

When she was arrested in May she was aggressive towards police, resisting officers and having to be forcefully restrained in handcuffs.

She also was caught driving while suspended on Pt Nepean Rd in Rosebud in February.

Her defence lawyer said the former nurse had reacted badly to several stressful situations in her life.

She said one of the men was stopping her seeing her children and the other took away the dog, which had become a family pet.

The woman was frustrated, hurt and displayed “an inability to cope” but would never have carried out the threats, she said.

She said prison had been an “eye-opening wake-up call” for her.

Magistrate Gerard Lethbridge said the “wheels had fallen off and she had lashed out”, in what she saw as “a war of attrition” with these people.

She will be sentenced later this week, with Mr Lethbridge indicating she will likely walk free and be placed on a supervision-based community corrections order.
