Ms Alsop was recently crowned Australian Pet Photographer of the Year at the Australian Professional Photography Awards for her quirky photographs depicting animals in human-like scenarios.
Ms Alsop’s favourite image, the ‘Elephant in the Room’ picked up a gold award and was inspired by author and artist Graeme Base.
“It contains 20 hidden animal puns and is really quite a magical piece,” she said.
She photographed all the animals in her images in person, then used photoshop to place them in different locations, including Harry’s Clothing Berwick, the background for her ‘penguins in suits’ image.
A lot of photos were shot during Ms Alsop’s recent trip to Auckland Zoo, and she also has domestic animals come into her studio.
“I love having the ability to be completely creative,” she said,
Ms Alsop uses her photography skills to bring magic to children who are unwell or have disabilities with her personal project, ‘The Heart Project’.
“I use that art and ability to create something that is impossible usually in reality and free them from those disabilities,” she said.
“That’s what I love about it, the impossible becomes possible.”
