A GUYS HILL photographer has channelled her frustration at sloppy rubbish collectors into a tongue-in-cheek piece titled Guys Hill Apocalypse.

Montuna Grove residents say waste removal contractor Cleanaway is knocking over bins every week, leaving a smorgasbord for local wildlife to feast upon.

Emerald Eye photographer Karen Alsop said she was at the end of her tether with “sloppy contractors” and an “inactive shire”.

And so Ms Alsop created a blog and image to vent her frustration.

“I decided to create my view of what our beautiful town might look like if nothing is done,” she said.

“We’re sick of it and after I made a complaint, the Shire sent me a letter essentially blaming us for overfilling the bins and told us to use cloth nappies as an alternative to disposal ones.

“I want them (Cardinia Shire) to install a camera to keep an eye on the situation … because it seems like they don’t believe us.”

Cardinia Shire waste officer Melanie Kerr would not say if CCTV cameras would be installed, but said the shire would provide advice to residents about overfilling bins.

Cleanaway health safety and environment adviser Leo De Pasquale denied the company was responsible for the mess.

“Our job is to collect household waste on behalf of Cardinia Shire Council and we too have noticed that some litter has escaped from the bins,” Mr De Pasquale said.

“After a joint investigation, we believe the most likely cause is that local wildlife is disrupting the bins.

“To prevent this localised issue, council has contacted residents with some useful tips and we are working with council to solve the issue.”
