BOOSTING bus services in neglected Skye and Carrum Downs could become a key election issue after politicians copped criticism during a community forum.
More than 100 people packed Frankston Mechanics Hall last week to grill candidates on their transport priorities ahead of the November election as part of the Leader Community News, Melbourne Transport Forum, Frankston Council and Mornington Peninsula Shire forum.

Opposition spokesman on Public Transport David Davis and Frankston Labor MP Paul Edbrooke both pledged to investigate improving services in the long neglected region after community members and councillors raised concerns.
Frankston councillor Glenn Aitken said bus services in the area were “desperately needed” and Mayor Colin Hampton said Skye had the “unenviable reputation of having the most people using their car to get to work of any other suburb in Melbourne”.
Mr Davis agreed there was “a serious need for more bus services”.
“We will be making announcements regarding this in the weeks leading up to the election,” he said.
Mr Edbrooke also said there would be announcements “on the horizon”.
“We need better bus services. Work is going on behind the scenes,” he said.
Route 788 — the Portsea to Frankston via Dromana route — also came under fire, with South Eastern Metropolitan Greens MP Nina Springle saying it was “appalling this service hasn’t changed 30 years”.
She said the route was “meandering and inefficient.”
Mr Edbrooke said a lot of work was needed to improve buses routes on the Peninsula and in Frankston and he hoped to undertake a service review across the whole region.
