Brute Brian Leydon bashed his sister with a bowl and threw fork at her head in a row over dishes

A Hampton Park man violently attacked his sister and bombarded his ex with bizarre “corrupt police sex cult” messages. Now he faces a nervous wait while a court decides his fate.

A delusional thug who thought his ex was in a “corrupt police sex cult” also violently bashed his sister with a bowl and threw a fork at her face, a court has heard.

Brian Leydon attacked his sibling at her Cranbourne West home in April after they fought over the washing up, leaving her semiconscious with a deep cut to the side of her head.

The Hampton Park 37-year-old pleaded guilty to a recklessly cause injury charge at Frankston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

The court heard at 12.30pm on April 19 this year Leydon and his sister began arguing over who should wash the dishes.

She threw a fork at him, which missed, before he threw it back at her, which hit the side of her head and caused a wide laceration.

He then grabbed her by the neck and hit her with his fist before raining blows down on her with a porcelain bowl he had in his other hand.

She was left dazed with blood running down her face, and would later require 10 stitches to treat the deep wound.

When police came and Leydon was arrested he denied assaulting his sibling, saying while he did push her, the bowl strikes were an “accident”.

He was remanded in custody for 26 days before he was bailed on May 14.

But a few weeks later he ended up spending two months in prison for harassing his ex-partner.

He had harassed her with a barrage of bizarre texts — including that she belonged to a “corrupt police sex cult” — leaving her scared for her safety.

Leydon has recently been released from jail and is now serving an 18-month community corrections order.

His defence lawyer said he had an acquired brain injury which caused him to make irrational, emotional decisions and he had impulsive tendencies which affected his ability to control himself.

He said although it was early days he was making positive progress on the corrections order, and requested he be sentenced to time he had already served.

Magistrate Vicky Prapas said she was seriously considering returning Leydon back to custody.

“I’m going to defer sentence to see how he’s going,” Ms Prapas said.

“I will receive a report and if he is doing well I’ll consider a further order, if not, I will impose a term of imprisonment.

“I want this hanging over his head for a period of time.”

Leydon was bailed and will face court again in January next year.
