THE Liberals have promised to upgrade a Cranbourne East intersection where a mother and daughter were killed, if they win government — but Labor say they’ve already solved the problem.
Ma Li Dai and her 14-year-old daughter Xinyu Yuan were killed when their car was struck by a Holden Commodore on the South Gippsland Highway on August 9 last year, as they left parent-teacher interviews at Lighthouse Christian College.

Thomas Charles Adamson, 27, was travelling at 155km/h and had a blood-alcohol content of between 0.125 and 0.165 per cent when he smashed into their car. He was sentenced to 13 years jail.
Last week Opposition spokesman for roads David Hodgett said an elected Liberal Nationals Government would spend $2 million upgrading the intersection with traffic lights, pedestrian crossings and electronic variable speed signs.
Liberal Candidate for Cranbourne, Ann-Marie Hermans said there had been too many close calls at the intersection.
“Residents are deeply concerned about safety at this busy and dangerous intersection,” Ms Hermans said.

But Roads Minister Luke Donnellan said the speed limit on the South Gippsland Highway had been reviewed last year following community consultation, and a new 80km/h speed limit permanently installed in November.
“The new speed limit will improve safety on this stretch of South Gippsland Highway and new advisory signage around Lighthouse Christian College will ensure drivers are aware of the school ahead,” Mr Donnellan said.
