CASEY’S new Mayor has named the extension of the Cranbourne train line to Clyde as among her top priorities for the next 12 months.
Councillor Amanda Stapledon, who has served at city hall for 11 years, was elected unopposed last week — her second term in the top job.

Cr Stapledon said the city’s desperate need for infrastructure, including the line extension, would be her key focus, through the council’s Commit to Casey advocacy campaign.
“Infrastructure and services are always at the top of our list due to the increasing demand of a large and ever-growing population,” Cr Stapledon said.
More than 240,000 people are expected to live in the Cranbourne East/Clyde area by 2025 and Casey’s population will hit almost 500,000 by 2041.

The Cranbourne Leader has since 2015 been fighting for the train line to be extended through its ‘Put Clyde Back on Track’ campaign.
In July, Liberal Leader Matthew Guy said the Opposition would spend $487 million to build 5km of electrified double line, with work to begin next year and be finished by 2022, if they win power at the November State election.

The Labor State Government has so far failed to match the pledge, but set aside $3 million in 2017 to buy land for a rail station in Cranbourne East and has promised to duplicate the Cranbourne line from Dandenong, paving the way for a future extension to Clyde.
Cr Stapledon said economic development, jobs, sustainability and environmental issues in the face of rapid growth would also be a focus for the next 12 months.
“I work with a great team and know over the coming year we will keep working towards achieving Australia’s most liveable city,” Cr Stapledon said.
“As a parent and a carer for my darling son Pete, I wish to thank him for the inspiration he gives me each day, helping me look beyond our own circumstances, to care about others and advocate for their needs, especially those most disengaged, disadvantaged and those most vulnerable in our community.”
Councillors Timothy Jackson and Rosalie Crestani will take on the roll of Deputy Mayors.
