After a chilly and drizzly morning failed to dampen the spirits of photographers, people young and old packed Fed Square today to celebrate #SnapMelbourne, trading their Instagram print-outs for free burgers, ice cream and coffees.

The sunshine stayed around all day, creating perfect conditions for photographers to capture our beautiful city.

Billed as the community event of the year, SnapMelbourne is a celebration of we love most about the world’s most liveable city.

Prolific city snapper Nanette White was among the hundreds who dropped in to Federation Square for a break from capturing the city on film.

“I’ve loved seeing all the photos people have posted, as though you are seeing Melbourne through their eyes,” Ms White said.

The keen photographer said she was always looking for her next shot. “I like to photograph things that just catch my eye — spontaneous Melbourne,” she said.

Kelly Devoal was among the thousands of people capturing the sights of Melbourne, taking a photo of the Collingwood St art scene. She said SnapMelbourne was a fantastic way to capture the city spirit.

“I love taking photos of the city and it was a fun idea to come down and see everybody else’s photos,” she said.

“I’ve been living in Melbourne for eight years and I still feel like I’m learning something new every day about this city.”

More than 4000 photographs have been tagged under #SnapMelbourne on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook as social media users all over Melbourne get in the spirit of the day.

You can play a part too — from local characters and fluffy friends to iconic landmarks and local eats, we want you to make history by capturing a snapshot of a day in the life of Melbourne.

As part of SnapMelbourne festivities, a media wall of photographs tagged #SnapMelbourne appeared live on the Federation Square big screen.

Festivalgoers had the opportunity to print their Instagrams for free and shop their snaps to Mr Burger and Franklin Coffee for a free burger, coffee or soft serve ice cream.

And X-Factor Australia’s Taylor Henderson got the crowds going with a free set for fans.
