A BORONIA schoolboy has been praised as a good Samaritan after he handed in a number of valuable rings to police when he stumbled across them on his way home.
Zach Couch, 14, was on his way to be picked up by his father on Chandler Rd on Saturday October 13, when he noticed a number of rings laying together on the ground.

“I was walking along and saw a few rings clumped together on the ground,” he said.
“I picked them up because I thought surely somebody would be looking for them.”
The owner of the rings, Maureen Dwyer, rewarded the boy with $500 cash as a thank you for the good deed.
Ms Dwyer said she was overwhelmed when police called to say the rings had been found.
“These rings cannot be replaced. One was an engagement ring, another was my mother’s wedding ring and the sentimental value of things like this cannot be accurately gauged,” she said.
After showing the rings to his father, who confirmed that they were valuable and most likely missing, the teenager handed them into Boronia police.
The Boronia K-12 College student said he was just trying to do the right thing.
“I’m just glad that the rings have found their way back to Maureen,” Couch said.
The rings were reported missing in the days following the find and after Ms Dwyer was told where they were found, she searched the area, finding another ring which she had lost.
The pair met at Boronia Police station last week where Ms Dwyer emotionally thanked the schoolboy for recovering the cherished rings.
