A man was thrown underneath a car after he lost control of his motorcycle in the Yarra Ranges.
The 20-year-old Mooroolbark remains in a serious condition in the Royal Melbourne Hospital following the incident, which occurred about 9.28pm on Friday, March 27.
He was allegedly travelling fast downhill on York Rd, Montrose, towards the roundabout, when he lost control outside York On Lilydale, Yarra Ranges highway patrol Senior Constable Grant Fereday said.
Sen-Constable Fereday said moments before the incident an Uber driver legally did a U-turn outside the hotel, placing him ahead of the motorcycle on the same side of the road.
He said the motorcyclist must have seen the car join the lane too late, and was allegedly travelling at “an excessive speed”.
The rider lost control and was thrown from his bike before he skidded under the Uber and his bike flew off the road and into a tree.
The Uber driver, a 53-year-old Wantirna man, and two passengers who were waiting on the side of the road to be picked up, all phoned 000 and tried to help the motorcyclist until paramedics arrived.
