Armadale aggravated burglary

A man has fallen out of a moving car in Armadale after he tried to catch two thieves who ransacked his garage.

The crooks managed to speed off with his ladder sticking out the back of their car, and two expensive bikes inside, but damaged their car in the process.

Police are calling for help to find the man and woman who carried out the aggravated burglary about 9am on Monday, March 23.

The aggravated burglary occurred near High St, Armadale.

Stonnington detective Senior Constable Jason Budge said an SUV — likely a dark Nissan Dualis — was reversed down a laneway off Lambeth Ave and parked near the garage of a home that fronts Willis St.

He said the pair then raided the open garage, taking two specialised bicycles — worth thousands of dollars — and a ladder.

A 46-year-old man, who was inside the house, heard the thieves and ran outside to confront them.

Sen-Constable Budge said the thieves were already back in the car, and the man grabbed the male offender, who was in the driver seat.

The man opened the door and managed to get half inside the car, before the driver sped off, causing the man to fall out the door and onto the street.

The car hit the side of another garage on the way out of the narrow laneway.

Sen-Constable Budge said the man was grazed from the fall and treated at the scene by paramedics.

The car was last seen speeding west down High St towards Orrong Rd, with its boot open and the ladder hanging out the back.

Sen-Constable Budge said police believed the theft was opportunistic, and the thieves hadn’t done their research to check if anyone would be home.

“You’d imagine now with self quarantining that more people would be home than usual,” he said.

Detectives have also released composite images of the man and woman, who were described as caucasian and in their mid 30s.

The man had a solid build with a fair fringe.

He was clean shaven and wearing sunglasses.

The woman had brown hair that went past her shoulders.

Anyone with information on the pair or the car is urged to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at crimestoppersvic.com.au.
