A 7-Eleven employee was assaulted when he tried to stop a couple driving off without paying for petrol.
Reece Diamond admitted to shoving the employee and kicking the doors of the Epping 7-Eleven store after refusing to pay for petrol, when he went before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, March 18.
The court heard the 25-year-old went into the shop on the corner of High and Cooper street about 11.30pm on November 21, 2018, while a woman, who was driving the car he came in, put $35 worth of petrol in the car.
The employee asked Diamond to pay for the petrol, but Diamond refused, so the man locked the doors of the store, the court heard.
Diamond then kicked the doors until the woman came up to the store and the employee opened the doors to let her in.
But the couple took the opportunity to run back to the car.
The court heard the employee stood in front of the car demanding they pay before Diamond got out and shoved the man out of the way, causing him to stumble.
The pair then fled.

Diamond appeared before the court by video link, having been in custody on another charge since August 2019.
The court heard the methamphetamine addict of 10 years had also served other jail time since the offence.
The prosecution suggested he be handed more jail time for the incident, noting he had been charged with assaulting an emergency worker since it occurred.
But Magistrate Michael McNamara said because Diamond was at a young age at the time of the offence and had been in custody since a $750 fine was sufficient.
