An allegedly drunk driver knocked a petrol bowser out of the ground after he lost control of his car at a roundabout and went flying through a nearby petrol station.

Fortunately, the United Petroleum on Mountain Hwy, The Basin wasn’t open when the black 4WD slammed into the middle petrol bowser, ripping it from the ground, about 1am.

A road sign was also part of the collateral damage.

Mr Mohammed said he did not know how much the repair would cost, but said closing the station and the Quickstop shop for the day would mean losing about $2000 in takings.

Immediately after the crash members from The Basin Fire Brigade worked to make the scene safe.

The Basin Fire Brigade Third lieutenant James Pearton said there was surprisingly only a little bit of fuel to mop up at the “unique job”.

But the six volunteers stayed working to secure the scene until about 3.30am.
