A motorist downed so much whiskey after fighting with his wife he couldn’t even manage to keep his car still when he tried to stop at a red light.
And watching Jasvir Singh roll over the stop line at a Mernda intersection were the police.
He then blew three times the legal blood alcohol limit.
Making matters worse, the repeat drink driver was meant to have a zero blood alcohol reading when behind the wheel, Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court has heard.
Singh pleaded guilty to drink driving when he went before the court on Thursday, March 12.
The court heard the father was stopped at a red light on Plenty Rd about midnight on May 19 when police saw his car roll over the stop line.
A breath test he did at 1.22am returned a reading of 0.168, before police impounded his car and cancelled his licence.
The court heard the forklift driver had fought with his wife before getting in the car.
Magistrate Jennifer Tregent said the outcome of his decisions could have been much more
“He had a fight with his partner about money, so he decides to drink too much and get in a motor vehicle and drive, endangering everyone else who uses the road?” she said.

“It was such a high reading.”
Ms Tregent said the fact he had moved over the stop line showed how incapable he was of controlling a vehicle.
The court heard Singh was meant to have zero alcohol in his blood when driving after he lost his licence for drink driving in 2016.
His licence was cancelled for 32 months, backdated to the date of the incident, and he was fined $1200 with conviction.
Ms Tregent said he could be forced to have an interlock in his car for four years once he got his licence back.
