CONSTRUCTION will finally begin this month for the $20 million redevelopment of Croydon Central shopping centre.
But shoppers can expect less parking and potential disruptions until the end of next year.
The redevelopment was set to begin in April but was delayed by centre owners Haben Group due to ”construction plans evolving” and design changes.

Spokeswoman Karla Bucoy said the changes include a new dining precinct, a “straightening out of the mall” and “a reshuffled tenancy mix”.
Ms Bucoy did not reveal any new tenants but confirmed the ALDI supermarket would move inside the new centre.
She also said the centre was “retaining some of our strong current tenants” who would give their stores new fit-outs.
Along with the dining precinct and fresh food outlets, the new Croydon Central will also include a childcare centre, multi-level gymnasium and medical and dental clinics.
The Croydon Project spokesman Nathan Hill said he was excited to see the redevelopment begin after delays and changes in recent years.
“There’s been a few false starts in the past but I think everyone in Croydon is really excited to see the upgraded facilities that they’ve got planned for Central,” he said.
“It’ll just lift the area and its long overdue.”
“It’s also really important for people to support the existing traders that are remaining during the construction phase.”
Twenty luxury townhouses on Toorak Ave are also being built as part of the project, with all but three sold or under reservation.
Ms Bucoy said the redeveloped shopping centre will be completed in time for Christmas 2019.
