Wantirna South crash caused ute to flip on Burwood Highway near EastLink

A ute has ended up on its roof after a driver allegedly ran a red light, causing a shocking crash in Wantirna near EastLink. Two people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The impact of a Wantirna car crash caused a ute to flip onto its roof and left two people in hospital after a driver allegedly ran a red light, police believe.

Police, paramedics and CFA firefighters rushed to the accident on Burwood Highway which happened near the entrance to EastLink about 8.40pm on Friday, February 28.

Knox highway patrol Senior Constable Kate Fisher said a Toyota Corolla was turning onto EastLink from Burwood Highway when it was hit by a Holden Colorado ute travelling west along the highway.

She said the impact of the crash caused the ute to roll onto its roof and significantly damaged both vehicles.

Sen Constable Fisher said the driver of the Toyota Corolla, a 31-year-old Vermont South woman, had been following the green arrow light, while the driver of the ute, a 31-year-old Tecoma man, had driven straight through a red light.

She said both drivers suffered minor injuries, with the driver of the Toyota taken to Box Hill Hospital.

The driver of the ute was taken to The Alfred hospital and is expected to be fined for failing to stop at a red light.
