Thousands of potential drug deals have been foiled after an estimated $100,000 of ice was allegedly seized in a Wantirna hotel carpark.
Police searched three vehicles at the Boronia Rd underground car park, allegedly seizing drugs, cash and prescription medication about 11.50am on June 8.
Croydon detective Acting Sergeant Daniel Yeoman said police arrested two men, a 55 and 50, allegedly in possession of drugs.
Acting Sgt Yeoman said one of the cars allegedly had stolen number plates.
He said police allegedly found 210g of ice, GHB, and more than $6000 cash.
Acting Sgt Yeoman said police believe the ice was valued at $100,000 and equated to 2000 street deals.
“During the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been an increase in the trafficking of illicit drugs from hotels,” he said.
“Yesterday’s seizure is a direct response to this increasing trend and police will continue to actively seek out those who engage in the illegal act of selling drugs.”
Acting Sgt Yeoman said the 50-year-old man was released pending further inquiries.
He said a 55-year-old man was charged with drug trafficking and possession offences, along with dealing with proceeds of crime and displaying a stolen number plate.
The man faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on June 9 and was remanded to appear again on August 10.
The arrest comes after Croydon detectives did an unrelated $400,000 raid in Bayswater North last week, which uncovered drugs, guns, cash, and an allegedly stolen car and caravan.
A 39-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested at a Bayswater Rd house and received 37 charges in relation to the discovery.
He was further remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in August.
