A diesel spill has caused a truck driver to lose traction and swerve into oncoming traffic, before jackknifing and landing “precariously” on the wrong side of the road in Lilydale.
According to the Lilydale CFA, the truck was travelling on Maroondah Highway towards Main Street when it was subjected to a large diesel slick on the road about 10am Thursday.
“The road hazard caused the truck and its heavy load to lose traction and swerve into oncoming traffic, before jackknifing and landing precariously on the wrong side of the road,” the brigade said on Facebook.
“A full station response from the Lilydale brigade and support from Chirnside Park Fire Brigade – CFA were quickly on scene to ensure the safety of the truck driver and passengers of the oncoming car, as well as prevent a fire from the additional diesel from the trucks ruptured tank.
“All drivers are uninjured.”
The brigade said the road remained closed as crews laid oil soaker and the truck was removed.
