State election: pollies vie for Rowville, Ferntree Gully and Bayswater
The battle lines have been drawn as the state election looms and voters prepare to decide who will represent the community in the seats of Rowville, Ferntree Gully and Bayswater.

The politicians have made their promises, now it’s up to the voters of Rowville, Ferntree Gully and Bayswater to have their say.
Among the big ticket items, The Liberal’s Kim Wells has promised to protect the Rowville Rail corridor through planning — to make sure it is only used as a public transport zone, $9 million to rebuild Rowville Secondary College, $5 million for Scoresby Secondary College and $2.5 million to rebuild Scoresby fire station.
He also committed to remove the Stud and Wellington roads intersection and fix congestion with either an over or underpass.

Independent candidate and former Knox councillor Joe Cossari promised he would advocate for a Royal Commission to stamp out corruption in Victorian councils, freeze council rates for two years while the Royal Commission takes place, build Rowville Rail, continue the tram line from Vermont to Upper Ferntree Gully, and install a police shop front at Stud Park Shopping Centre.
Meanwhile in Ferntree Gully, the Liberal’s Nick Wakeling promised $9 million for Fairhills High School, $5 million to upgrade Scoresby Secondary College, $1.5 million for Wantirna South Primary School, $1.5 million for a new Scoresby Fire Station, and a police shop front at Westfield Knox shopping centre.
Labor’s Julie Buxton pledged to support better transport options, including advocating to extend the tram line from Vermont to Knox, support business and employment, and find ways to create more opportunities, support local sporting clubs, protect and enhance parkland and recreational spaces, increase school funding and protect residential amenity.
In Bayswater the Liberal’s Heidi Victoria promised $140,000 to Batterham Reserve in The Basin, $300,000 to upgrade Boronia West Primary School and $250,000 for Boronia K-12 College.
Labor’s Jackson Taylor committed to continue working with the community as the ALP had previously done.
