Safety fears have been raised over a boutique apartment complex planned near Ringwood railway station, which locals fear could lead to major congestion in the area.

Developer Evergarden has pitched plans to Maroondah Council for a five-storey, 42-apartment complex at 12-14 Pitt St in Ringwood.

Two existing homes would be knocked down for the proposed development located next to Ringwood Church of Christ and a dental clinic.

It is also right next to the Warrandyte Rd railbridge and the site of the proposed Ringwood multideck railway station carpark.

On planningalerts.com.au, Marg H expressed concerns over the proposed project and feared construction works and extra residents could clog the street.

“Such a narrow street with ongoing continuous on-street parking, virtually making the street at times a single traffic lane street,” she wrote.

“Construction, emergency services and even garbos would find this street difficult at times and now looking at intensive development — needs to be seriously assessed.”

Plans compiled by consultant Urbis indicate the complex would include 47 parking spaces across two levels.

An Urbis spokesperson said the development was in a designated area to support future population growth and was “appropriately located with proximity to transport services, retail and education facilities”.

The spokesperson was unable to comment on Evergreen’s behalf on project costs or plans for construction.

The complex is the latest multistorey development proposed for Ringwood’s growing activity centre

Last month, Leader revealed plans for a major 14-storey, $30 million Quest Hotel at nearby 229-231 Maroondah Highway, with 80 serviced apartments and 38 parking spots.

The council has received 22 submissions for the proposed high-rise and a planning meeting was scheduled on February 24.

The council’s communications team was contacted for comment.
