A man accused of stealing a BMW and leading police on a pursuit through Melbourne’s east has been arrested at a Ringwood pub.

Manningham detective Senior Sergeant Rohan Courtis said officers walked into the venue and arrested the man about 5pm on February 24.

The arrest came after a yellow BMW was allegedly stolen from a home in Frank St, Doncaster in the early hours of February 22.

Sen-Sgt Courtis said officers tried twice to purse the stolen car but both were called off because of safety concerns.

He said the driver allegedly dumped the car at Boronia railway station later that morning and jumped on a train to evade officers.

The car was then recovered and forensically examined before Wednesday’s arrest.

Sen-Sgt Courtis said a 25-year-old Mooroolbark man was charged with a string of car theft, dangerous driving and traffic-related offences, as well drug possession and committing indictable offences while on bail.

He faced the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on Thursday morning, February 25, and was further remanded to face the court again at a later date.

Any witnesses of the alleged car theft and pursuit or anyone with dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
