A Nunawading man who allegedly kicked a teenager’s head on a bus and terrorised the Boronia Mall with a machete has been denied bail.
Kai Robinson, 23, applied for bail in the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday after he
was remanded in custody in October after he allegedly committed a string of drug-fuelled offences including an attempted carjacking, assault and multiple weapons offences.
The court heard Mr Robinson approached a man who was sitting in his car in Nunawading and demanded he hand over his keys on October 21 last year.
When the man refused to hand them over, Mr Robinson allegedly smashed the driver side window before the man drove away.
Later that day he also allegedly damaged several other parked cars and stole a bike before he was arrested.
The court was told it took four officers to arrest Mr Robinson, who was found to have a large knife in his possession.
The 23-year-old was also accused of a violent incident on a bus on October 4.
He sat across from an 18-year-old man on the bus for a couple of stops before he allegedly stood up and without provocation fly kicked the teen to the head.
Mr Robinson allegedly punched the teen to the face before getting off the bus.
The court heard the incident was caught on CCTV and witnessed by several other passengers.
In August, Mr Robinson also allegedly terrorised shoppers at the Boronia Mall by waving a machete around and fleeing police when they tried to arrest him.
Magistrate Jennifer Tregent said the Nunawading man was an unacceptable risk to the community because he continued to arm himself with dangerous weapons.
She denied his bail request.
He will next appear before the court on May 15.
