A window has been smashed and clothes dumped at the former On It Burgers restaurant in Ferntree Gully.
Two charity clothing bins have also been placed in the Burwood Highway restaurant’s carpark, with signs warning the area is under 24-hour surveillance.
But it hasn’t stopped people dumping clothes and household items around the carpark.
The once-popular business closed last year.
Clothing has also been dumped in recent weeks near charity bins in the Ferntree Gully train station carpark.
Knox Council city strategy and integrity director Matt Kelleher said the council had not received any planning applications for the former burger joint site at 930 Burwood Highway.
“This site, along with the Ferntree Gully station carpark are not owned or managed by council, so charity bins do not require a council local law permit,” he said.
Mr Kelleher said the council had seen a slight increase in dumped rubbish across the municipality between April 2020 and August 2021.
“During COVID-19 restrictions, people have more time to clear out their homes and garages, but they are not able to take waste to transfer stations or op shops,” he said.
“These factors may have contributed to an increase in dumped rubbish and overflowing charity bins.
“Residents can book two hard waste collections each year through council’s waste service that is part of their rates.”
On It Burgers is not the only Knox restaurant to shut its doors over the years.
