ALMOST a decade after it stopped operating as an iconic reception centre, the famous Rembrandt’s site on Burwood Highway in Wantirna South is still sitting idle.
Earmarked for development between four and eight storeys, Knox Council says it would welcome approaches from developers to build on the site, to create jobs and economic growth in the area.

It operated as a reception centre until 2007.
More than half of the site was sold to St Andrew’s Christian College in 2009, and the school continues to operate there.
The council’s director of city development Angelo Kourambas said as of March 9, the council had received no planning applications for the site.
They are encouraging interested developers to get in touch with the owners of the site.
“We would welcome approaches from developers with suitable creative proposals, which will add value to the Knox community,” Mr Kourambas said.
The Burwood Highway site falls under the Priority Development Zone that states development on the land should be between four and eight storeys. This could include major hotel accommodation and convention facilities.
Mr Kourambas said the council was not able to say who currently owned the site.
