Mitcham’s old milk bar has been reincarnated and given a modern, healthy twist — and customers are loving it.
The team behind Croydon’s popular Mad Ram Cafe have just opened ‘Mylk Bar Mitcham’ inside a vintage milk bar building in the Rangeview shopping strip at 1/544 Mitcham Rd.
Gone are the energy drinks and sim cards once sold out of the space, and traditional milk bar goodies are back.

BLACKBURN CHILDCARE CENTRE TO OPEN
“We wanted to bring it back to life with all those old nostalgic, milk bar things we remember we had as kids,” co-owner Mark Andersen said.
He grew up in Mitcham, and has fond memories of walking to the milk bar to buy bags of lollies as a child.
Now the store once again sells Zappos, Nerds, killer pythons, Golden Gaytimes and serves milkshakes in metal cups.
It also offers “cool Melbourne cafe food”, including breakfast, lunch, pastries and take-home meals, plus specialty coffee.
The delicious tastes from Mad Ram Cafe, which Mr Andersen runs with business partner Daniel McDonald, have all been brought to the Mitcham cafe.
But the favourite dishes been given more of a takeaway vibe, with every item on the menu able to be easily taken home.
Mr Andersen said the pair wanted to throw back to the old tradition of people dropping into a milk bar to grab a milkshake and dinner.
“People can come at the end of the day and get a milkshake and a Mexican or Peking duck bowl to take home for tea,” he said.
All the meals are designed to be healthy to provide a guilt-free takeaway option in the area.
The milk bar is also the place to get a coffee, offering cups made with various alternatives to dairy milk, including oat and coconut milks.
