The team who launched Blackburn’s Black Alchemy Cafe have opened a new cafe less than 200m away.
Located down Blackburn Walk at 1/20 Blackburn Rd, Little Wattlebird Cafe is in the heart of Blackburn Station Village — not far from Blackburn railway station — but it can’t be seen from the road.
Once customers find the cafe though, they don’t seem to forget it.

Manager Karen Gauci said customers who had visited the cafe on its opening weekend returned the following weekend.
Little Wattlebird Cafe offers coffee, all-day breakfast, lunch and desserts with a touch of Asian influence everyday of the week from 8am to 4pm.
“We wanted to make it a little different — it’s not just a normal cafe,” Ms Gauci said.
Some of the dishes that have proved to be popular in the cafe’s first three weeks are the linguine, souffle pancakes and beef bowl.
“The banana bread has just been walking out the door,” she said.
And new meals are already on the horizon, with a Japanese-inspired mushroom dish not far off.
Customers can enjoy the cafe’s unique tastes in its huge dining space, which formerly housed Blackburn’s Sonley Steakhouse.
It’s the venue to host larger groups and events, with capacity for up to 60 patrons.
Styled with stone accents and an abundance of indoor plants, the interior has been renovated to create “an industrial/forest vibe”.
“It’s very calming — and we’ve had customers tell us that,” Ms Gauci said.
The cafe’s name has also been inspired by the area’s bush environment with the Wattlebird being native to Blackburn Lake Sanctuary.
Ms Gauci said she and owner Eddie Chung, who were from Balywn and Doncaster, loved Blackburn, which was why they had returned several years after opening Black Alchemy Cafe together on South Parade.
“We had a little break and the team’s back together,” she said.
