PAUL Nedza was new to the world of hospitality when he took the plunge and opened Peasant coffee + food.
Just over a year ago, the store next to his wife’s barber shop on Wood St became vacant.
At the same time, Mr Nedza was feeling like there was a “gap in the market” in terms of cafes in Nunawading, and decided to pursue his love of coffee.
He wanted to bring speciality coffee to the area, minus the exclusive vibes that can accompany it.

“We didn’t want it to be too pretentious,” he said. “We wanted it to be welcoming.”
“Homely and rustic.”
Mr Nedza said his cafe was very coffee-focused, and aimed to consistently provide high-quality coffee.
The small kitchen offers bites to eat, featuring a variety of jaffles.
And Mr Nedza has added his own personal touch to the menu — offering polish dumpings at his coffee shop. “It’s a spin off of my background.”
While dumplings might seem like more of a lunch or dinner thing, he said customers chose to eat them all day at his cafe.
Mr Nedza said his business as a whole had received a “great response from locals”, and he enjoyed chatting to the regulars on their way to work each morning.
